I'm delighted to be able to let you all know that our very successful group of players who as Under 11's won the SE tournament three years running, have carried on with their winning ways and yesterday beat Kent and Sussex in order to win the South East Under 13 trophy - also the first time we have ever won at this age group.
Many congratulations to Andrew Taylor, Anthony Rogal, Nick Rossiter, Krishan Gulabivala and Ross Sutcliffe. - Karin

| MINI SQUASH LEADERS UNDER 13 SOUTH EAST CHAMPIONS AWARDS SUNDAY 30th MARCH 2008 |
A junior membership of over 70 and regularly having up to 50 at the Saturday morning junior sessions between 9:30 and 12:30.
There is a thriving Mini Squash (aprox 4 to 8 year olds) which is the foundation for vibrant junior squash at Finchley Manor in the future.
Judy Williams our resident coach also runs a Thursday after school session which is very well attended. She is supported by Mini squash leaders Hannah and Harriet and Level 2 coaches Tim, Craig & Peter. We are also working with a few parents to start their level 1 coaching qualification.
Finchley Manor U13, U15 (two teams) and U17 teams all did very well with two coming top of their leagues (~5 matches played Sunday afternoons throughout the season)
The club has hosted England Squash & Racketball coaches ‘workshops where national coaching instructors bring our own coaches and other coaches from Middlesex and Herts up to date with latest training methods
The best juniors from the club have gone on to represent their County, Andrew, Lee, Ashil, Toby were all in the Middlesex U15 county squad & Nicky un the Herts U13 Squad, the U15 made it all the way to the National Intercounty Finals and finished 4th. Two of our girls made up nearly half of the Middlesex GU17 team. FM hosted on behalf of Middlesex some of these One day Intercounty Matches.
In the Middlesex County Closed FM juniors were represented in most of the age groups and won a few of them (Mixed U11, Boys U13, 15, 17, 19 & girls U13, 15 & 17)
One of our most promising Juniors is Andrew, who was Nationally ranked #2 in the U13s and is currently ranked 14th in the U15s having just turned 13. Now playing for the Club’s top men’s teams.
This year we hosted the selection and Trial for the Barnet squash teams (boys and Girls) for the London Youth Games which is the biggest youth sporting event in the world. The selected teams almost exclusively comprise of FM juniors.
We are looking forward to the next season in which we hope to achieve England Squash & Racketball Club Mark accreditation in recognition of the of the work and infrastructure the club provides.
| The LYG is the biggest youth games in the world with over 500,000 competitors this year! In Barnet's Girls Squash team 3 out of the 4 girls were from Finchley Manor; Hannah, Harriet and Lauren. On the Saturday they played someexcellent games and reached the Quarter finals. On Sunday they justlost to the eventual Runners Up in a very close match. They then went on to win a very close 3/4 playoff to finish with a Bronze medal. |
